The name Club C is short for Club Champion, a nod to the club-level tennis player Reebok built the shoe for in 1985, and the 'Chalk' colourway is the version of the women's Club C 85 that looks most like a survivor from that era. Instead of the optic white of the standard retro, the leather upper is Chalk, an off-white with a little warmth in it, and the only other colour in the make-up is Weathered White, a second near-white. The result is a tonal shoe where the stripes, the heel tab and the tongue label barely separate from the body. It is the Club C 85 with the contrast turned all the way down.

An off-white Club C suits people who find the plain white version too stark, and the tonal treatment sets it apart from the Club C 85 Vintage, which pairs a chalk upper with a yellowed sole; this pair stays in two near-whites. The construction is the standard Club C 85: soft leather, perforated toe, rubber cupsole. Because the tone already reads as slightly aged, the pair hides scuffs and yellowing better than a bright white Club C, which is a practical argument for it beyond the look.
