Purple and black split the lightweight Primeknit, with the black foot cage doubling as the three-stripe branding and leading back to a red suede heel clip. Red returns on the tongue branding. The loudest element is hidden: the insole carries the letters CBC, for Celebrating Black Culture, visible only when the shoe is off the foot. That restraint is the design decision that separates the pair from a louder commemorative sneaker.
It released on February 27, 2019 at $180, inside the window adidas uses each year for its Black History Month footwear. The Harlem Renaissance the name points to was the flowering of Black literature, music and art centred on that New York neighbourhood in the 1920s and 1930s. The shoe itself is the first-generation UltraBoost pattern, knit upper over a laced cage and a full-length Boost midsole, with the suede overlays the only material departure from a standard release.
