Three Asian cities got their own UltraBoost 2.0 in July 2019: Shanghai, Seoul and Tokyo. The Tokyo version prints the adidas line about the brand with the three stripes diagonally across a lightweight black and white knit, repeating it in different languages so the upper reads as text at close range and as pattern from further away. Red carries the same expression onto the heel tab and puts TKY on the tongue.
The technical package is standard for the generation: a midfoot cage threaded through the laces, Boost cushioning running the full length of the shoe and a Continental rubber outsole. Retail was $195, fifteen dollars above the base UltraBoost price of that year, which the graphic treatment accounted for. City-themed releases have run through the line for years, and this pack is the one that used typography rather than local colour symbolism to make its point.
