adidas eventually split the Ultraboost in two. The performance line carried on being updated for runners, while DNA became the branch that admitted what most buyers were actually doing with the shoe: wearing it to work, through airports and around town. DNA models reuse knit patterns and proportions from earlier generations rather than chasing the current running specification, so the line reads as a compilation of a silhouette's greatest hits rather than as the next step in its development. Boost still fills the midsole and a cage still holds the knit through the midfoot. Rendering the whole thing in collegiate navy, tooling included, removes the last performance signal the model had, since the white midsole showing off the fused pellet structure was the feature people recognised the shoe by in the first place.
