adidas did not update the Ultraboost for 2019 so much as take it apart. Designers and developers worked with thousands of runners and reduced a shoe of seventeen separate pieces to four functional parts, each with a job. Optimised Boost put roughly twenty percent more foam into the midsole than the first-generation shoe carried. A Torsion Spring plate was added beneath it to steady the landing and add propulsion through the stride. Primeknit 360 wrapped the foot as a single piece. The 3D Heel Frame replaced the bulkier counter of earlier versions with a lighter cradle around the Achilles.
The midfoot cage stayed, in reduced form, along with the Continental rubber outsole. What changed most in feel was the volume of foam and where the structure sat: a shift from a shoe with a plastic exoskeleton to one where the knit and the frame shared the work. This colourway belongs to the first run of seven, released in February 2019, and keeps the knit and the frame in the same pale register so the construction reads as texture rather than contrast.
