Kith has been in the collaboration business since Ronnie Fieg opened it in New York in November 2011, and its adidas work has usually meant sportswear rather than outdoor gear. The Jackson collection was the exception. The Terrex Free Hiker it produced is a hiking boot in outline (full-length Boost under a knitted collar, a Continental rubber outsole cut for grip), dressed in materials that an actual hike would ruin.
The upper is perforated red suede. A black suede mudguard runs the toe, the heel counter is yellow TPU, and the forefoot overlays are green and blue, so no two elements share a color family. Kith's own branding and adidas' three stripes are deliberately mismatched from one shoe to the other, a trick the shop has used elsewhere and one that only works when the rest of the design is already unbalanced.
It went out in December 2019 at $250. Nothing about it is a technical claim; the Free Hiker's own hardware does the work while the color scheme argues with itself on top, which is why the pair still reads as a Kith release rather than an adidas one.
