Stella McCartney launched a joint venture with adidas in September 2004, and what began as a women's sports-performance collection has outlasted most designer-sportswear arrangements. The premise was that technical kit for women did not have to be men's kit resized, and the line has covered running, training, tennis, swimming and winter sport since.
The other constant is material. McCartney is a lifelong vegetarian who will not use leather or fur, and the position runs through the adidas work rather than sitting beside it - one collaboration jacket carried the line 'suitable for sporty vegetarians' printed on it. A knit-upper running shoe suits that constraint well, since there is no hide involved anywhere in it.
This one is the UltraBoost in white and black: a flexible knit upper reinforced through the sidewalls and heel where the foot loads, a midsole of Boost, which is thermoplastic polyurethane expanded and fused into pellets, and a Continental rubber outsole underneath.
