Jacquard is a weaving system, not a pattern. Joseph Marie Jacquard's loom, demonstrated in France at the start of the nineteenth century, used punched cards to control which threads lifted on each pass, letting intricate figured cloth be woven mechanically rather than by hand, an idea that later fed directly into the history of computing. Running uppers borrowed the principle two centuries on, weaving support, stretch and ventilation into a single panel as changes in structure rather than as stitched-on overlays. That is what this generation of the Cumulus is built from, sitting over a heel unit carrying the reformulated, much softer GEL the brand had introduced on its flagship shortly before. Midnight covers the body with cilantro green picking out the stripe and midsole, one of the more restrained pairings in the range.
