ASICS launched the first GEL-Kayano Lite in October 2020 with an unusual brief for a flagship spin-off: make the shoe by using less. The Lite is built from fewer components and less material than the numbered GEL-Kayano, lands roughly 30 grams lighter for it, and carries recycled content in its engineered mesh upper. Its designer described the approach as adapting the original model along more simplified and sustainable lines.
The support works differently too. Rather than a firm medial post, the Lite relies on the shape of the midsole itself (flared outward to widen the base under the foot), together with ASICS's 3D Space Construction, which varies the midsole's structure to improve stability without adding a separate corrective wedge. That is the same direction the main line took later, when the 29 dropped its post for LITETRUSS and the 30 introduced adaptive guidance.
By the third version the formula was settled: a stability trainer for runners who want the Kayano's control without its bulk. This one pairs an azure upper with amber on the stripes and heel.
