The Nimbus began in 1999 as the ASICS answer to a narrow brief: maximum cushioning for long, slow miles without the weight that usually came with it. The name is Latin for cloud, and the brand has been open that the intent was literal. Over two decades the model became the headline neutral trainer in the range, sold beside the support-focused Kayano rather than against it.
The twenty-first edition changed what sat underfoot. ASICS moved to FlyteFoam Propel, a foam built around an energy-return elastomer, and paired it with a full-contact outsole that kept more rubber on the ground through the gait cycle. Reception was split. Testers praised the rebound and protection on long efforts while describing the ride as heavier and less lively than the specification suggested, a criticism the line only really answered three versions later.
This colorway leaves the platform alone and takes the palette almost entirely dark. Retail held at $150, where the line had sat for several years before later editions pushed higher.
