Platinum is a recurring ASICS treatment rather than a one-off pack. The brand takes shoes already in its running range, gives them a metallic finish and a mostly silver-grey palette, adds reflective detailing, and sells them at a premium over the standard version.
Applied to the twenty-third Nimbus in mid-2021, that meant a softer engineered mesh upper, a flexible midfoot panel and reflective hits for low-light visibility, on top of the FlyteFoam Propel midsole and updated rearfoot GEL the standard model used. ASICS also specified at least twenty percent recycled content in the primary upper material, part of a broader materials push across its 2021 range.
The premium was $20, taking the shoe to $170 against $150 for the regular twenty-third Nimbus. That is the whole proposition: the same long-distance platform, a more considered finish, and enough reflectivity to matter on early runs. It is one of the few cases where a metallic running colorway comes with a functional argument attached rather than a purely visual one.
