The GEL-Nimbus 24 was the generation where ASICS stopped treating its flagship cushioning shoe as a purely plush object. The midsole switched to FF Blast Plus, which ASICS put at around 15% lighter, 15% softer and 12% bouncier than the FF Blast it replaced, laid under a firmer FlyteFoam top layer so the shoe kept some structure. Measured weight came down by roughly 20 grams to about 10.2 ounces, with a 36mm heel and 26mm forefoot.
The upper changed as much as the foam. The thickly padded tongue of earlier Nimbus models gave way to a thin, stretchy knitted one, and the plastic Trusstic element moved out of the outsole and into the midsole as a floating shank. The trade was clear at the time: the 24 ran lighter and more willingly at pace, but lost some of the sturdiness and step-in plushness the line had traded on.
This pair sets that platform in a muted grey with orange used sparingly for contrast.
