For twenty-three generations the Nimbus had been the cushioned, neutral end of the ASICS road line: reliably plush, reliably heavy. The twenty-fourth edition is where the brand went after the weight.
The midsole is the change. FlyteFoam Blast Plus replaced the plain FlyteFoam of the 23, a foam ASICS rates as lighter and more energetic, and the shoe shed roughly half an ounce as a result. The midfoot Trusstic shank moved as well: instead of sitting exposed on the outsole, it was folded up into the midsole, which left more rubber in contact with the ground on landing. The upper was redrawn in thinner engineered mesh with a stretch tongue.
Reviewers who ran both generations back to back described the 24 as nimbler and bouncier than the 23 while giving up some of the older shoe’s upper plushness, a trade the line has broadly kept since.
