Twenty-five editions in, ASICS changed the thing the GEL-Nimbus is named after. The 25 introduced PureGEL, a softer formulation of the silicone-based cushioning the brand has used since 1986, and buried it inside the midsole instead of framing it in a sidewall window. The visible GEL unit had been a selling point for decades; removing it from view was a bet that how the landing feels matters more than whether you can see the part responsible for it.
The foam changed with it. FF Blast Plus Eco carries at least 20% bio-based content derived from renewable sources including sugar cane processing waste, and ASICS increased the volume of it in the midsole by around a fifth over the previous generation. The upper moved to a soft, stretchy knit tongue and collar, which is why the 25 steps on more like a slipper than the structured 24 did.
