GEL had been the same idea for thirty-five years before ASICS reformulated it. The silicone-based inserts the brand launched in 1986 were tuned to disperse impact and stayed broadly consistent through decades of shoes named after them. PureGEL, introduced on this generation of the Nimbus, is the rewrite: a version the company describes as substantially softer than what came before, sitting in the heel of a shoe already carrying more foam than any Nimbus had. It moved to the stability flagship within months, which is how technology travels through a running range: flagship first, then across, then down. This is the loudest makeup the rebuilt twenty-fifth got, an aquarium blue against vibrant yellow, and it lands strangely on a model whose selling point is how little you notice underfoot.
