2012 was a renumbering year at ASICS. The brand retired the GT-2100 family and started the GT-2000 series in its place, and it did the same thing one tier lower, replacing the Gel-1000 line with the GT-1000. Both moves tidied a support range that had accumulated increasingly confusing model numbers over two decades of annual updates. The GT-1000 has been the entry point ever since: mild support for a foot that rolls inward slightly, at a price well under the models above it, stocked in volume through general sporting goods floors rather than specialist running shops. The eleventh edition keeps that arrangement intact, with lightweight foam carrying the cushioning, GEL at the rearfoot, and support structure along the inner side. It is the shoe a first-time runner is handed when they mention their arches, and it has been doing that job under one name or another since the 1990s.
