A hundred-dollar running shoe is an exercise in subtraction. Everything in it has to be justified against a price that leaves no room for a second foam, a plate, or an upper built from three materials, so the entry-level end of a brand's range tends to be simpler in construction and heavier in rubber, because outsole coverage is cheap and it keeps the shoe alive longer. The GT-1000 has held that position at ASICS since it replaced the Gel-1000 line in 2012, offering mild support at roughly two-thirds of what the model above it costs. The white upper is the notable choice here. Support trainers are usually finished in colours that hide road grime, and white does the opposite, though it does make the firmer foam along the inner side easy to pick out.
