By its twelfth generation the GT-2000 had settled into a pattern: incremental foam changes, the same hundred-and-forty-dollar price, and a fit range broad enough to cover standard, wide and extra-wide lasts from a single colorway. What separated this version was PureGEL, a reformulated take on the cushioning material ASICS has carried through the whole line.
The support approach stayed where the tenth generation put it. A foam LiteTruss structure does the work older shoes gave to a firmer medial post and a plastic shank, backed by midsole geometry rather than by a hard corrective wedge. That combination is why the line kept being recommended to runners who overpronate mildly but do not want to feel a shoe pushing back at them.
Black over carrier grey was the default look of the September 2023 launch, repeated across every width so that a runner needing the broadest last did not have to accept a visually different shoe. It arrived on 2 September 2023 alongside a metropolis grey option, with sunrise red following in December.
None of this is dramatic, and that is roughly the point. This model sells on being the same shoe every year, slightly better, in whatever width you need.
