The Cumulus has been the quiet one in the ASICS lineup since 1999, when it arrived the same year as the Nimbus and took the everyday half of the job. Version 23 was a small step rather than a leap: a millimetre more FlyteFoam underfoot, the Propel insert removed from the heel, a softer upper, and a set of moulded pillars at the top of the midsole that ASICS shaped differently for men's and women's builds to suit different landing patterns. Reviewers described a ride softer front and back than the 22 and less responsive with it, a daily trainer that works best paired with something faster in the rotation. That is a fair description of what the model has always been for. Black with white keeps it as unremarkable to look at as it is to run in, which for a shoe bought to absorb hundreds of routine miles is not a complaint.
