The diamond pattern on the outsole is not styling. It is the tread Converse put on a basketball shoe so that it would grip a wooden floor, and it has survived largely unchanged into a model almost nobody plays in. The metal eyelets are a similar holdover, and a lab smoke test found that nearly all the air moving through a Chuck 70 passes through those holes, because the canvas itself breathes very little.
Dark soba is a muted brown, warm enough to read as a neutral and dark enough to hide scuffing along the foxing line. Egret trim and black detailing finish it, and the pair released on 4 January 2021 at 85 dollars. Above the sole sits the rest of the 1970s specification: canvas heavier than a standard All Star's, a glossy midsole with the foxing climbing higher up the sidewall, and a removable OrthoLite insole measured at close to 14mm.
