Día de los Muertos is observed in Mexico on the first and second of November, when families build ofrendas for the dead and dress them with marigolds, candles, photographs, food and sugar skulls. It is a celebration rather than a period of mourning, and the visual language that goes with it, skeletal calaveras rendered in bright colour, is among the most recognisable in Latin American culture.
Converse released this high-top on 10 October 2021, a few weeks ahead of the holiday, at 85 dollars. Pink carries the upper, the graphic work runs in several colours across the canvas, and egret is left plain at the toe cap and foxing so the print has a clean border to sit inside. The shoe underneath is the standard Chuck 70: canvas heavier than a regular All Star's, a taller glossy midsole with the foxing climbing high, a one-piece rubber outsole and a thick OrthoLite insole.
