Quilting is a construction, not a print. Two layers of fabric are stitched together in a grid with a filling between them, which traps air and produces the raised squares or diamonds along the surface. Here the outer layer is nylon rather than cotton canvas, so the upper is lighter, slicker and better at shedding light rain than the standard shoe.
Sail blue carries the panels, with birch bark, a pale neutral, and egret trim at the toe cap and foxing. The Workwear framing lines up with the material for once: quilted nylon comes out of jacket linings and utility outerwear rather than court shoes. It listed at 90 dollars, five above a plain canvas high-top of the same season. The sole is untouched: glossy foxing running high, one-piece rubber, diamond tread, and a thick OrthoLite footbed inside.
