Knitting an upper instead of cutting it from cloth changes what a Chuck can be. A knit is built to shape on a machine, so density can vary panel by panel, and the result flexes with the foot where woven canvas resists it. On a shoe whose identity rests on stiff cotton holding a rigid shape, that is a real departure.
Renew is the part that explains the material. Converse introduced the program in 2019 around recycled and upcycled inputs, its canvas process spinning used plastic bottles into 100 percent recycled polyester rather than growing new cotton, with parallel routes for landfill denim and factory cotton waste. Egret is the base colour, with string and barely volt threads running through the knit so the surface reads flecked rather than solid. It released 22 April 2021 at 95 dollars and keeps the line's glossy high foxing, one-piece rubber outsole and thick OrthoLite footbed.
