Renew is the label Converse puts on shoes built from waste, introduced in 2019 with three separate processes behind it. Renew Canvas spins recycled polyester from used plastic bottles into a cloth meant to look and handle like the cotton canvas it replaces. Renew Denim upcycles jeans pulled from landfill into a single-source textile. Renew Cotton, which followed in 2020, blends canvas offcuts collected from other factories into a composite of roughly 40 percent recycled cotton with polyester.
This low-top takes the tri-panel route: mellow rose, plein air blue and egret blocked across the upper with optical white alongside them, so the recycled material is shown in three colours at once rather than dyed to imitate an ordinary pair. It released 15 May 2020 at 100 dollars, above the 80 dollars a plain Chuck 70 low asked that year, and keeps the line's higher foxing, one-piece rubber outsole and OrthoLite footbed.
