Charlotte had waited a long time for this weekend. The city's only previous All-Star Game was in 1991, at the Charlotte Coliseum, an arena the franchise left long ago; the 2019 edition returned it to the Spectrum Center on 17 February. By then Michael Jordan had been the team's majority owner for nine years, having taken control on that same calendar date in 2010.
Two Air Jordan 1s marked it, released together in a run of roughly 300 pairs each and inverted against one another. This is the light one: quilted white leather across the upper with black taking the eyestay, collar, heel and outsole, the reverse of its counterpart. The quilting is the detail that separates both from a standard retro; it is a texture the model does not normally carry, and it is the reason the two shoes read as a set rather than as two colorways.
The tongue tag borrows from the 1991 game, closing the loop on the twenty-eight-year gap. Proceeds from the original sale went to the Charlotte Hornets Foundation.
