Jordan Brand's spring 2018 Air Jordan 1 program leaned on Chicago, and this pair states the idea plainly. The medial half wears the black and red of the model's 1985 launch, the lateral half wears the red, white and black associated with the city, and the seam between them runs straight down the middle of the shoe.
The first release was restricted to the Chicago area in an edition of 2,300 pairs, each stitched with its own number on the inside heel. Those pairs also carry From and For printed at the heels, a sentence the city itself completes. A second run followed in May at Jordan retailers worldwide, unnumbered and without the local exclusivity, and that is the version most people encountered.
Split-colour Air Jordan 1s were not new by 2018, but this one carried an argument rather than a graphic. Putting two of the model's own launch-era colourways on a single shoe reads less as a mashup than as a note about where both of them came from.
