Bright ceramic is the official name for the orange on this Grateful Dead x Nike SB Dunk Low, one of a trio that also came in yellow and green. Its entire upper is shaggy faux fur in a hot orange, with tonal suede overlays laid on top so the shoe keeps its Dunk shape under all that pile. A green spark Swoosh cuts through the fur with a thick, jagged outline drawn around it. The dancing bear on the tongue descends from the bears that march across the reverse of the band's 1973 live album Bear's Choice, and that tongue conceals a small zippered stash pocket.
Nike SB released the trio in summer 2020 at $110, with the orange pair launching first through a San Francisco skate shop before the yellow and green pairs followed days later. The bear theme has a precedent inside the SB line: the 'Three Bears' pack of Baby, Mama and Papa Bear Dunks had already put faux-fur panels on the silhouette in November 2006, and the 2020 pairs took that idea across the whole upper. The stash pocket is the collab's wink at the Deadhead crowd. Beneath the fur the shoe is built like any other SB Dunk Low, Zoom Air heel and padded collar included, so it skates the same, even if few owners will risk the pile on grip tape.
