Tinker Hatfield designed the Air Max 1 by exposing the shoe's Air cushioning through a window in the heel, an idea he traced back to the Centre Pompidou in Paris, where the building's pipes and structure sit outside its walls rather than hidden within them. The 'Pure Platinum' Low colorway keeps that window intact while lightening the shoe's build with a Pure Platinum mesh upper, matching leather overlays, a Cool Grey suede mudguard and a white midsole, set on a tri-tone rubber outsole.
Issued July 23, 2019 at $119, it landed as one of the more affordable ways into the Low construction that summer, trading loud colorways for a near-monochrome palette built around texture rather than contrast.
