The thirty-seventh Pegasus was a bigger change than the line usually allows: React foam replaced the older midsole compound, and the Zoom Air unit in the forefoot was made significantly larger, shifting the shoe's character toward the toe-off rather than the landing. The adaptive version adds an entry system on top of that. A zipper runs down the medial side so the shoe opens far enough to step into, and the lacing is a bungee cord that pulls tight and locks with one hand: no tying, no bending down, no second hand required. Nike developed the technology after a letter from a teenager with cerebral palsy asking for a shoe he could fasten himself, and by this point it had spread from basketball into the running line. In white with racer blue and a green-yellow accent, the zip is the only visible departure from a standard pair, which is precisely the design goal: an adaptive shoe that does not announce itself.
