Width fittings are the least discussed part of running shoe design and among the most consequential: a shoe that fits the length of a foot but crushes it across the ball will blister, numb toes and change a stride. Nike builds the Pegasus in several widths, and this is the extra wide version of the adaptive build: the same thirty-eighth-generation trainer with React foam and a forefoot Air unit, the same zip-open entry and one-handed cord closure, but on a last cut noticeably broader through the forefoot and midfoot. Pairing the two matters more than it might appear, because many of the conditions that make conventional laces difficult also involve swelling, orthotics or braces that need the additional room; an adaptive shoe without a wide option solves only half the problem. The colourway is the plain one: a black upper with anthracite and volt detailing and white on the sole. It arrived alongside the standard-width version in the spring of 2021.
