Concepts opened in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1996, and when Nike SB came to the shop in 2008 wanting a Dunk, what came back was a New England dinner. Suede in two red tones stood in for a cooked shell, the insole was printed like a bib, and a rubber band wrapped the toe in imitation of the one that keeps a live lobster's claws shut. Fifty pairs shipped in a wooden crate packed with a fork, a shell cracker, a bib and a wet wipe. The joke worked well enough to become a series. A blue version followed, referencing the rare pigment mutation that produces one, then yellow, then purple and green a decade later, then orange. Very few collaborations survive fifteen years on a single premise, and almost none of them started from a restaurant menu.
