Nike started its skateboarding division in March 2002, and the shoe it started with was already seventeen years old. The Dunk had been a college basketball model in 1985; the skate version kept the outline and rebuilt everything that mattered underneath, adding a Zoom Air sockliner for landings, an outsole reworked for grip tape, and a thickly padded tongue protecting the top of the foot from the board. That turned a 1980s silhouette into working equipment, and it became the canvas the entire programme painted on for the next two decades. This pair borrows its palette from the character who trains Luke Skywalker: tan and olive across the upper for tattered robes and green skin, with a bright accent standing in for a lightsaber. No licence was ever attached, which was half the appeal. The reference lives entirely in the colours.
