Supreme opened in April 1994 on Lafayette Street in lower Manhattan, in a room laid out so people could skate inside it. James Jebbia started it because there was nowhere in that part of the city to buy skate gear; the first staff were skaters and cast members from Larry Clark's film Kids, which settled the shop's standing downtown before it had sold much of anything.
The Foamposite is an odd shoe to hand a skate label. Its upper is a single molded shell rather than stitched panels, which makes it rigid, heavy and close to impossible to modify - and also means a colorway lands as one uninterrupted surface with nothing to break it up.
This one runs black into metallic gold, with the Supreme wordmark on the tongue, a carbon fiber shank in black and white beneath the arch, and a translucent outsole. A red pair released next to it.
