No Nike running shoe has lasted like the Pegasus. It entered the line in 1983, sold tens of thousands of pairs within months, and has been produced in almost every year since, which makes it both the longest-running and the best-selling franchise the brand's running division has.
The reason is that the Pegasus has never tried to be the fastest or the most cushioned shoe Nike makes. It sits in the middle, gets a new upper and a revised midsole every year, and absorbs whatever cushioning technology has become cheap enough to put in a mid-priced trainer. Over four decades that has meant Air-Sole units, then Zoom Air, while the newer foams went into the models above it first.
The thirty-fifth version used an engineered mesh upper tuned for stretch in some areas and hold in others, over Zoom Air. This premium women's build came in a deep blue at $135, dated to early 2019.
