The Pegasus has been in Nike's running line for decades and survives by being unremarkable in the right way: a neutral daily trainer priced for people who run a lot, updated annually without ever being reinvented. Its cushioning formula has settled into Cushlon foam with a full-length Zoom Air unit, soft enough for long easy runs and quick enough not to feel like a recovery shoe.
Shield is the seasonal variant, and it changes only what the weather touches. The upper gets a water-repellent treatment so it sheds rain rather than soaking it up, reflective material is worked into the Swoosh and the heel for the months when running means running in the dark, and the outsole rubber is swapped for a compound with more wet grip.
What it does not do is turn the shoe into a boot. The point of a Shield model is that a runner keeps the shoe they already know through the winter instead of buying something heavier. This 36 is finished tonally in cool grey, with the reflective detailing invisible until headlights find it.
