SF stands for Special Field, and the shoe is a genuine hybrid rather than a repaint. Nike designer Ben Kirschner took the brand's Special Field Boot, a military-issue design, and merged it with the Air Force 1, keeping the basketball shoe's toe and sole and replacing everything above the ankle with boot hardware. It first appeared in late 2016.
The shaft is the giveaway. It rises well above a standard high-top, runs a rope lacing system through open eyelets instead of the usual flat laces and metal hardware, and can be cinched or rolled down. An adjustable strap sits at the ankle. This pair works in Light Silver with Mica Green, a muted gray-green that keeps the military reference without resorting to olive drab. At $200 it was priced as a boot, which is a fair reflection of how much more shoe there is here than on the low-top it descends from.
