Reebok's Pump arrived in 1989 as the first shoe whose fit a wearer could adjust by hand, inflating a bladder inside the upper until it locked around the foot. Five years later the Instapump Fury took that idea to its conclusion and removed the laces entirely. The upper is held by an inflatable cage, the midsole is split so the forefoot and heel sit on separate pods, and nothing about the shoe looks like a running shoe from 1994, which is why it has outlived almost everything released alongside it.
Hexalite handles cushioning in the heel, a honeycomb structure Reebok moved to after its earlier Energy Return System.
This collaboration works in layers rather than in colour blocking. A translucent mesh shroud printed with drawn graphics sits over the shoe, so the grey mesh upper and its tonal suede forefoot overlays are read through it, while the inflatable cage underneath is finished in a glossy mint green that shows through the haze. The tongue, orange mesh, carries the Pump button.
