Blacked-out builds change what a Boost midsole looks like. Normally the foam is white and reads as a bright band splitting the shoe in half; here Core Black runs through the midsole as well as the upper, so the profile becomes one continuous dark mass and the silhouette is defined by its outline rather than by its parts.
Vivid Red is the exception and the reason this is not simply a triple black. It is a clean, slightly blue-leaning red used in small amounts, and because it has no other colour to compete with it holds attention wherever adidas placed it. The knit upper is a single piece with welded Three Stripes that stay tonal, the collar pulls on like a sock, and the inserts moulded into the midsole sidewall are dark enough to be felt more than seen.
