Sesame is adidas speak for a warm sand tone, and this NMD_R1 wears it almost head to toe. The Primeknit upper is patterned with a broken, pixellated camouflage the brand calls glitch camo, so the tan base is shot through with slightly darker and lighter blocks rather than sitting as one flat colour. Three Stripes branding is knitted in rather than applied, which keeps the sidewall clean and lets the camo read as texture from a distance. The heel counter and lace cage follow the same sand palette.
Underfoot sits the full-length Boost midsole the line has used since the start, here in Cloud White so the tan upper has something to sit against. The moulded inserts at the forefoot and heel are rendered in black, the only hard contrast anywhere on the shoe, and they double as the visual shorthand that separates an NMD from any other Boost runner. It arrived in August 2018 at a $140 retail price, ten dollars above the mesh version of the same year, with the Primeknit construction accounting for the difference. A webbed rubber outsole handles traction.
