Parley for the Oceans works with brands to convert intercepted marine plastic waste into yarn, and adidas has run that material through most of its major franchises. Here it goes into a Primeknit upper on the STLT version of the NMD_R1, a build that raises the collar into a more structured sock and reworks how the midsole inserts meet the upper. The base is Core Black, with Blue Spirit and Equipment Green worked into the knit as fine flecks rather than blocked panels, a nod to the ocean sourcing without turning the shoe into a literal seascape.
The waste itself is collected from beaches and coastal communities before it reaches open water, then processed into a polyester yarn that knits the same way virgin material would. Beneath it, the full-length Boost midsole is unchanged, and the moulded EVA stabilisers that define the silhouette sit at the forefoot and heel in matching black. It carried a $140 price when it landed in July 2018, in line with other Primeknit pairs of that year rather than a premium for the recycled content. A rubber outsole with the line's segmented webbing pattern finishes it.
