The 24th Cumulus is the version where ASICS changed the answer rather than the wording. Where the 23 had run a FlyteFoam base with pillared compression zones above it, the 24 dropped in a full-length FlyteFoam Blast midsole, the low-density high-cushion foam ASICS had been using on lighter shoes, and raised the forefoot stack.
The outsole changed as well, moving to a rubber compound ASICS calls Lite, which cut weight without giving up durability. The shoe stayed in roughly the same ten-ounce class, and the price moved up to $130.
Reviewers who had covered both versions consistently described the gap between them as large, with the 24 landing softer and bouncier where the 23 had been firm and dependable. That is a meaningful shift for a line whose whole appeal is being the sensible neutral trainer, and it moved the Cumulus closer to the shoes above it in the range. This black pair with orange came in spring 2022, among the first colourways of the update.
