Adding a GORE-TEX membrane to a trail shoe is a trade, not an upgrade. The waterproof bootie keeps out standing water and wet grass and costs breathability and about twenty dollars, which is why ASICS sells this version alongside the standard mesh Trabuco 11 rather than instead of it. Underneath, the shoe is the same one: a redesigned ASICSGRIP outsole with small multidirectional lugs in place of the older elongated pattern, deeper lugs at the heel for descending, and an upgraded rock plate that stays flexible while blocking sharp debris. Reviewers found it a genuinely versatile all-terrain shoe, stable across dirt, grass and snow, with weight the main complaint. Weight matters less in the conditions this version is built for. Black with antique red is the sort of colour a waterproof shoe gets, a palette chosen on the assumption that it will spend its life covered in whatever it was bought to keep out.
