GEL is the technology ASICS built its name on, and it is older than most of the shoes carrying it. Launched in 1986, the silicone-based insert was designed to disperse impact sideways rather than simply compress under it, and within a year the brand had named an entire line after the material. On a stability trainer like this one the GEL sits in the rearfoot, where a heel striker lands hardest, working alongside FlyteFoam rather than replacing it. Lake Drive is a deep blue ASICS used across its running range through 2021 and 2022, appearing on several models at once. Brands commit to a colour like that when they want a whole wall of shoes to read as a set. The tenth GT-2000 sits a tier below the Kayano in that lineup: lighter, cheaper, less structured, and sold in far greater numbers.
