The Novablast arrived as ASICS' attempt at a bouncy, high-stack trainer at a mainstream price, and its third version is where the formula settled. FF Blast+ replaced the earlier foam, making the shoe lighter without losing stack, and the heel-to-toe drop came down from 10mm to 8mm. Runners who had loved the first two generations were split: the ride reads smoother and more controlled than before, but firmer, and some of the trampoline sensation the name traded on had gone.
The compensation was stability. ASICS added pronounced sidewalls at the rearfoot on both the medial and lateral sides, along with a large centred heel bevel, addressing the wobble earlier Novablasts were criticised for. The upper was rebuilt with a snugger knit mesh, a wider tongue and more padding through the heel counter. The outsole keeps the model's segmented, cut-out layout and a raised forefoot bump, with rubber concentrated around the perimeter to save weight.
At roughly 8.5 ounces it sat at speed-trainer weight while carrying daily-trainer cushioning, which is what kept it in so many rotations. Glow Yellow is the high-visibility reading of that shoe, released 31 May 2023 at a hundred and forty dollars.
