ASICS keeps a Japanese vocabulary in a global catalogue. Seasonal make-ups across its running range carry Japanese names that go untranslated on the box, a small piece of a company that has been headquartered in Kobe since 1949 and still builds part of its racing line domestically. The naming does no engineering work, but it marks a shoe as a considered edition rather than a colour rotation, and the palettes attached to them tend to be softer than the neons the performance range defaults to. This one is a case in point: sky over cream on a model that usually arrives in high-visibility yellows and blues, at a small premium over the standard version. Underneath, nothing is different: the same rebound-tuned foam, the same hollowed outsole geometry that gave the line its name and its following.
