The LX edition of the Air Max 97 leaves behind the usual layered mesh and overlay construction for a single molded upper, smooth and sculpted rather than stitched from separate panels. The color runs in a gradient, starting anthracite grey near the toe and fading into amarillo yellow through the midfoot, with the model's wavy design lines still visible across the molded surface.
Summit white handles the sole unit, where Max Air cushioning sits under rubber outsole lugs built for traction rather than a smooth tread. Released February 7, 2019 at a retail price of $170, the LX build marked one of the more materially adventurous takes on the silhouette that year, trading its usual soft upper for a rigid, molded shell.
