China's panda bear lends its name and its palette to the Wmns Air Max 97 'Panda', built across a black and white mesh upper rather than the shoe's usual mix of materials. Alternating stripes of black and white leather trace the wave-shaped overlays at the midfoot and quarter panel, echoing the animal's contrasting fur in the shoe's own ripple lines.
It released January 2019 at $160, and the Air unit underfoot shows through a translucent window rather than sitting fully exposed, a variation on the visible cushioning the model has carried since it first appeared in 1997. The result is a colorway built entirely around contrast: black against white at every panel, with no accent color anywhere on the shoe to soften the split.
