Before the Pegasus Turbo, ZoomX existed almost nowhere. Nike had developed the foam for the Vaporfly Elite and the Vaporfly 4%, shoes sold in tiny numbers at racing prices, and everyday runners had no realistic way to run in it.
The Turbo changed that by treating ZoomX as one layer rather than the whole midsole. Nike stacked it over React foam, wrapped it in a stripped-down Pegasus upper, and sold it at $180, which was a lot for a trainer and a fraction of what a racer cost. Reviewers at the time treated it as the first shoe of a category that did not yet have a name; it is now generally described as the original super trainer.
This women's Blackened Blue pair is dated to July 2020, near the end of the model's first run. What the Turbo started has since become standard, with nearly every brand now selling a daily trainer built around its own racing foam.
