The scales on a Kobe 6 are not a print. Eric Avar's design covered the upper in raised polyurethane islands that change size across the shoe, denser where a foot drags and scuffs, and the pattern reads as snakeskin because Bryant's nickname invited it. But the reason it exists is abrasion resistance on a low-cut shoe with very little else protecting it. That gave the model an unusually good surface for graphics, since every colourway sits on visible texture rather than flat mesh. Nike used it hard, and the 2011 All-Star run is one of the clearest examples: a set of colourways aimed at different parts of Southern California, each treated as a scene rather than a palette. This one is a sunset: orange through red across the whole upper, teal at the swoosh and outsole, a starfish printed on the sockliner.
