The Suede Classic 21 is Puma's current-production take on its long-running low top, and this one runs a single dark green across the entire upper. Puma's name for the shade is Green Gables. White does all of the separating work: a white Formstrip down each side, white foxing around the toe and a white midsole under it. Puma listed the pair at 70 dollars when it came out in October 2021, which put it at the accessible end of the line.
Monochrome green is a harder sell than black or navy, and that is most of the appeal here. The shade is dark enough to read almost neutral indoors and only declares itself in daylight, so it behaves like a dark shoe most of the time and a green one when it counts. Suede takes dye deeply, which is why this family has always been a colour-first shoe; a flat, saturated panel like this is what the material does best. Brush the nap occasionally and keep it away from salt and standing water, and the depth holds.
